    WordPrint wizard.hta runtime error

I'm trying to play with putting a Word Print into my InfoPath form so that I can use Word's more extensive formatting abilities to print out the data collected on my form and am getting the following error after pressing "Finish" on the wizard.hta:

    quote:
    Runtime Error!

    Program C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshta.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

    Hi Matt,
    OK, I'll forward to MS.

Any workaround for this? Should I try it on a different machine? I am pretty sure it is a problem with my installation of wizard.hta, I tried it with a very simple form and got the same response. I'm going to investigate some options, maybe new version, uninstall/reinstall, etc. Thanks for any help.

I got it working. I'm not sure which of the two that I was missing caused the runtime error (I'm guessing html2xhtml.dll), but after I copied ImageDecode.dll and ../html2xhtml.dll into system32 and registered them, everything seemed to work. However, couldn't MS give a little bit more descriptive error message to help people know why things are going wrong and not just simply that they are?

If you want a repro I can explain one. I tried this on a clean-install Windows XP machine with fresh install of Office and OfficeSP1.

    Hi again,
Sorry for delay - I was on vaca. No word back from MS yet. I sent another e-mail. It would help to have a good repro, but glad to hear you found a workaround. :)

    0) create an .xsn with a few fields in it, save as "nex.xsn", close editor
    1) Install the SDK, of course.
    2) Browse to the WordPrint directory
    3) Copy WordPrint.dll to C:\WINDOWS\system32
    4) register the DLL using "regsvr32 WordPrint.dll" on command prompt
    5) Run wizard.hta in the WordPrint folder
    6) Click browse and find "new.xsn" and click next
    7) Click "Open Word 2003..." and add a few fields to the document
    8) Do a "Save as...", save the document as an ".htm" file named "doc1.htm"
    9) Close Word and re-focus on the WordPrint wizard
    10) Browse to the .htm file that you just saved
    11) Do not check "Store a copy of the Word 2003 document in the form." and click Next
    12) Click Finish
    13) An runtime error message pops up

I'm pretty sure the problem is caused by not copying and registering html2xhtml.dll, but I would have figured that out a lot sooner if the runtime error message had said that I needed to do that. Kind of like when you run wizard.hta without copying and registering WordPrint.dll it says "...You must have WordPrint.dll installed to run this...", why can't it do this with html2xhtml.dll?

There are three .dlls that you have to register in order to use the tool:
    html2xhtml.dll
    imagedecode.dll
    wordprint.dll

If you register all those, the tool should finish without the mshta.exe error.

    Re: WordPrint wizard.hta runtime error

I am running 64 bit Vista. When I go to register it per above I get a warning it may not be compatible with a 64 bit system. Not wanting to mess up the registry I stopped and did not register it. Is it safe to register or is there a 64 bit version or am I SOL? Stuart

    Hi Skarden,

I'm afraid I wouldn't really know. Though I helped with troubleshooting above, I've never used this tool. My guess is that it would not cause issues with your system and that the worst result would be that the tool simply would not work, but I cannot say that with complete certainty.
